A Legless Lizard Pseudopus apodus (Anguimorpha, Anguidae) from the Early Pleistocene of Crimea

Elena V. Syromyatnikova, Maria S. Tarasova

Abstract

Remains of Pseudopus apodus (Anguimorpha, Anguidae), the largest living limbless lizard, are described from the Lower Pleistocene deposits of the Taurida cave on the Crimean Peninsula (Black Sea region). This record represents the first fossil anguid lizard from Crimea and one of the earliest documented occurrences of the species.
