A Survey of the Amphibian Species of Sungai Bubu, Anak Kurau, Perak, Peninsular Malaysia

Shahrudin Shahriza, J. Ibrahim

Abstract

A survey of the amphibian species of Sungai Bubu, Anak Kurau, Perak was carried out between January 2011 and December 2014, over eight consecutive visits. A total of 18 species of frogs, belonging to 11 genera, and six families, were recorded during the excursions. Two forest frog species; Phrynoidis aspera and Odorrana hosii, as well as two commensal species; Fejervarya limnocharis and Microhyla heymonsi, were found to be the most frequent species, and were sighted every month during the surveyed periods. The presence of many breeding sites, including forest streams, rivers, isolated pools, rock pools, rain pools, and temporary puddles, attracted the frogs to breed in these areas. This checklist represents the first report on the amphibian species found in Sungai Bubu, Perak and their adjacent areas.
