Abstract

During fieldwork on herpetofauna of western foothills of the Zagros Mountains, western Iran in October 2009, four specimens of the poorly known gecko, Tropiocolotes persicus bakhtiari Minton, Anderson and Anderson, 1970 were collected from gypsum foothills around Masjed Soleyman, in Khuzestan Province. This gecko has been reported in Iran based on examination of limited material, as little information is available on its the morphology, distribution and taxonomy in southwestern Iran. The morphology of the collected specimens, as well as their habitat, is discussed. All of the examined specimens have their species-specific characters: 1) two pairs of postmentals, anterior pair of which in contact, 2) dark dorsal crossbars of dorsum and tail broader than interspaces as are in accordance with the type specimen.
