Miscellanea Accrodontia: Notes on Nomenclature, Taxonomy and Distribution

Philipp Wagner, Aaron M. Bauer, Thomas M. Wilms, Mirko Barts, Wolfgang Böhme

Abstract

This publication includes several contributions usually published as short notes. Taxonomic issues of three species-group names of the genus Agama Daudin, 1802 are discussed: the proposed name bearing type of Agama aculeata Merrem, 1820 is corrected; Agama namaquensis Werner, 1910 is identified as synonym of Agama anchietae; and Agama agama mucosoensis Hellmich, 1957 is elevated to species rank. Moreover, the first report of single introductions of Agama africana and, as additional note, of Chamaeleo chamaeleon to Madeira Island (Portugal) is presented.

Keywords

Reptilia; Squamata; Agamidae; Agama namaquensis; Agama agama mucosoensis; Agama atra; Chamaeleonidae: Chamaeleo chamaeleon; introduction; Madeira; validity; synonymy
