Patterns of Sexual Dimorphism in the Flat-Tailed House Gecko Hemidactylus platyurus (Schneider, 1792) (Reptilia, Sauria, Gekkonidae) on the Territory of Large Cities of South-East Asia (Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Bangkok)

Abstract

Statistical analysis on the characters of sexual dimorphism in three populations of H. platyurus inhabiting the cities — of Bangkok (Thailand), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Vientiane (Laos) was made. Based on the results of the sample comparison using the Mann – Whitney U test, a greater number (9, or 56.25% of all characters studied) of significant differences was found for the population from Bangkok as compared to, Phnom Penh (6, or 37.50% characters) and Vientiane — 3 (or 18.75%). In all studied samples, male geckos, are characterized by linear dimensions of the head larger than those of females. The morphological distance when comparing males and females decreases in the series Bangkok (1.18) — Phnom Penh (0.91) — Vientiane (0.71).
